Working together with The Indian Institute of Technology – Mechanical Engineering Department, Simpri Investments has over the last three & half years  developed a folding container design which automatically folds ocean going containers to one fourth its size – The SIMIIT Four Pack Folding Container.

Once folded and stacked together vertically it takes up exactly the same space as a regular TEU. With its self locking mechanism it does not require any special equipment or cranes to be used. All existing equipment will work on this “Four Pack”.

The folding of the container is done at the point of origin of the empties and requires a special hydraulic platform also designed and developed by Simpri and IIT. This folds the container to one quarter its size and one trailer will be required instead of four trailers to take back the empties to the port.

This results in lower transportation costs, less traffic on the road, and reduction of traffic congestion at the port as well as less pollution due to the reduced traffic.

Having gone through the proof of concept process by re engineering an old container, we are now in the process of building

prototypes and which will be subsequently submitted for certification.
